Re: Considering bringing a boat from US to Hong Kong

I think shipping from the US to HK would be quite expensive for a 45 foot yacht. Why not look at yachts in the region and have a delivery crew sail it back to Hong Kong. I've got lots of friends who've found nice yachts in Singapore and Thailand and sailed them back.

There is currently a nice Swan 53 for sail on our dock in Sai Kung which I think has 'grandfather' rights for the berth.

We have two large boats (40 & 48 ft) and I can honestly say I'm mystified by the statements made that it's impossible or stupidly expensive to do this in Hong Kong. It isn't. Our first 30 ft boat was cheaper to moor/park, insure & license than our car....

Cheers, Cameron

Check out boats in Thailand and Malaysia. Not as cheap as the west coast but some good deals as cruisers tend to stop there and not go further due to the pirate problem further west.

Re: Considering bringing a boat from US to Hong Kong

hi all

Sorry it has been a while...

First of all, thank you all for the support and info

I'm still in the market for the right boat and I might get lucky this Saturday, final meeting with the owner of a Catalina 36 and my surveyor, lets hope we can do good maths!!!

I checked boats in Thailand and Malaysia but the costs are still high, not to mention to get a skipper to bring it to HK.

wish me luck guys!!

regards
Andres

Re: Considering bringing a boat from US to Hong Kong

Hi Gpolar,

The Swan is currently under offer and it looks like the sale will go through. I'm not sure what the selling price was, but I think it was purchased 2 years ago for about half a million US. I did the Macau race on her a couple of years ago - very nice boat!!

The boat is berthed at Hebe Haven Yacht Club in Sai Kung.

Cheers, Cameron
