Re: Coastal Marine Wi Fi

I came across this thread as I am in Victoria and am trying to come up with a Wifi solution for my boat so the kids can do some streaming in the evening and rainy days as we head around the Gulf Islands and maybe as far up as Desolation Sound. I was happy to see what looked like a Victoria based business with a product and now see they appear to be out of business.

Has anybody had a good experience with a simple and reliable (and affordable - say ~$500) wifi extension product in this area that they can recommend? My boat did come with an older KVH dish and Telus box when I got it, but I am not sure that is the way to go.

Thanks for any tips!

Re: Coastal Marine Wi Fi

I just ran across the discussion here. I had coastal Marine Wifi also. I have not been able to figure out how to use it without the app. It sounds like you may have figured that out. I would certainly love to have your directions for fixing this.

Re: Coastal Marine Wi Fi

Hey All,

I am in Nanaimo and I just got a boat that also has coastal marine wifi. So sorry they have gone out of business.

If someone can post the instruction you found to do it the hard way please do so.

Cheers - Lorne

Re: Coastal Marine Wi Fi

Hello Lorne
"Easy Bullet" was an Ap designed by Coastal Marine to "communicate" between the Ubiqutius Bullet 'clever' RF amplifier in your antenna and a router. Both have IP addresses Its a matter of finding a computer "guy" to set you up.
Amazingly such a person came aboard One Papillon and activated my antenna but was unable to complete the task. Seems to be a daunting task...so perhaps a sailing computer guy out there can accomplish this and write a simple AP and we are all back in business. I tried a couple of places around Nanaimo, no luck.
So I sail around with a Coastal Marine antenna begging for someone to step forward.
Cheers from Thetis Island

Re: Coastal Marine Wi Fi

Cheers Lawrence. I have a few techy contacts so let me see where I can go.

That said, Cellular data is getting cheaper and wifi hotspots are often subpar so I may just beef up my cell data plan and call it a day.

If I find the answer I will post it here.

Cheers - Lorne

Re: Coastal Marine Wi Fi

Hello Lorne
Agreed on the cel data solution. I am hot spotting with Telus provider that had a generous plan for such connections. The Wi Fi in most Marinas in the Pacific North West is spotty as you point out. But we might get prepared for Elon's satellites?
Also a challenge to fellow sailors to source a good cellular signal booster if such exist?
Notwithstanding we just need to find the computer person to get the two IP addresses talking to each other and turn this hi tech apparatus that I am dragging around into a viable communication link.
Cheers
Lawrence

Any luck receiving instructions? Also have the same WiFi solution. App no longer working. I can’t determine the Id and passwords for the Trendnet or Bullet. Help is really appreciated.

Re: Coastal Marine Wi Fi

Hi OnePapillon. Were you successful with completing the changes to the wifi system? Are you able to forward the protocol?

Thanks

To anyone looking for help with Coastal Marine Wi-Fi system,

I am able to help. I was an installer for these systems, and are repairing them locally, on Vancouver Island BC

Send me a Private Message, and I will contact you as soon, as I am able to.

To anyone wondering, Phil passed away very suddenly, even I was not aware of it for while.

Cheers everyone and stay safe on the water.
