Chincoteague Inlet

Is this inlet navigable for a 4.5 draft? And if so - is it possible to anchor there?

Re: Chincoteague Inlet

Deeper draft boats use the inlet that what you need, AFAIK. I recall seeing large fishing boats inside, but we don't get over there much now.

Check Active Captain and talk to the marinas there. AC doesn't show many anchorages, but I'd think you could find some place safe. Beware that the Virginia Inside Passage is not maintained anymore.

Re: Chincoteague Inlet

Chart 12211

If you can't read the chart, don't go in there. And no, no inlet is suitable for anchoring. Again, if you can't read the chart to see where there are anchorages...don't go in there.

If you can't read the chart, you can't navigate and you can run aground there.

Chincoteague Inlet

+1 on ActiveCaptain. If you have BOATUS or Seatow, give them a ring.

The trick with inlets is the conditions when you go. Maybe be fine at one hour of the day and then the tide turns. Horrendous consequences for getting it wrong and the hillsborough inlet YouTubes can offer some caution. If you aren't knowledgeable in that area (sort of if you have to ask) then stick with hellosailor's advice.
