Chattahoochee River Waterway

Does anyone have any information about the Walter F George Lock. The dam is being repaired because of damage from hurricane Michael, but no mention of the locks becoming operational. The locks were not operational prior to the hurricane and I am wondering if the Army Corp has made plans to fix them in the further. https://goo.gl/maps/WCTuVtMRrP9YkATo6 Looking at the lake area for a possible wintering ground.

Reviving an old thread - does anyone have first hand experience with the locks and dams on the lower Chattahoochee River?

TIA.

Re: Chattahoochee River Waterway

Still not open. Current notice says:
Walter F. George is currently closed for issues with the downstream miter gates and is tentatively scheduled to be open for navigation after the closure in 2028.

Don't expect this to be fixed as commerical traffic is not a priority on this waterway. To bad because as I stated back in 2021 it might make a viable wintering ground as the climate continues to make wintering on the Gulf coast a hazard. Lots of boat ramps, lakeside campgrounds and parks with easy acess to commerce. The community's along the lake would benefit immensely from such a seasonal influx.

You can track any progress or lack there of at "lock maintenance schedule"" @

I am currently in the area visiting family and stopped . I talked to a corp ranger who told me it is funded but does not know
when/if it is going to happen. Navigation aids are still in place on the riverside of the dam and gate (broken one ) is closed. Pretty river. Controlling depth currently not known. Lock refurbishment and operation sure to change it.

Re: Chattahoochee River Waterway

Thank you, Scubableu. I may be down in Columbus in mid-November to take a look around and see what I can figure out. If I find anything helpful I'll post it.
