Though they don't post often enough - for anything to do with long term cruising (real bluewater cursers) evansstarzinger and ice.

for pure knowledge - Andrew Troup and Foolish Sailor (the name is false advertising).

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Re: CF members to seek advice from

The problem with making lists like this is inevitably someone gets left off unintentionally that shouldn't and they might be left feeling snubbed. For example, just off the top of my head no one has mentioned Jim Cate, CaptForce, S/V HyLyte, or noelex 77 but I think everyone would agree they contribute some very valuable posts!

Perhaps a better way would be to rate the usefulness of individual posts?

Re: CF members to seek advice from

Perhaps someone should start a thread on who not to seek advise from, or who will turn a good thread into a thread about guns or anchors.

Re: CF members to seek advice from

As any good communication platform should, this forum offers a "Thanks" button. Used it a couple times myself, although haven't start sailing. Should be easy to do a little "business intelligence" and see who's opinions are most appreciated.

For hearing how lame-brain your DIY project is, and how badly you'll screw up everything -

pretty much anybody with less than 100 posts, or whose experience consists of looking at boats they want to buy.

my sentiments as well
the fact is there are just too many to catagorise,
many whose knowledge and experince overlap with others.
personally i think the forum is great the way it is.

Smartest all around circumnavigator, writer, boat designer, celestial navigator, raconteur, shoestring sailor, gourmet, and general know-it-all: GOPRISKO, for some unfathomable reason AKA: INDY. My man!

DOJ gets my vote for the best sense of humour.

We should put him on retainer to diffuse the guns, anchor, boat choice threads.
