Re: CF Member Demographics

boatman61 pulled into falmouth on thursday on his delivery to spain from ireland and called me up,ended up fixing the engine for them, repairing the autopilot, getting fuel, wining and dining them and lots of driving around to find bits.

guess that must make me a "ships agent"

Re: CF Member Demographics

"Other". 90% the way through a refit / refurb, could have been out sailing several years now - but just easier to keep her ready to work on 24/7 (as the mood takes me )..........to be honest, after I renamed her "Wayluya" Seadog! I had pretty much arrived at my destination of having a Garden Shed to dissapear into (physically and mentally) - IMO every fella should have a Garden Shed

Besides, been messing around with boats since 3 foot tall, and nothing around here I've not seen a squillion times, including the easy bits of nearby (15 / 35 miles) France..........albeit very nice it all is ..............but with the boats have always had a "can take it or leave it" attitude...........besides I get a few (Day / Short) trips every year with other folks

As my efforts on the refurb draw to a close (and then I get to add some "nice" stuff ), I will be faced with some decisions........historically I have always tried to have 6 months of time off work every year, I don't always succeed - the nature of self employment - sometimes you got to grab stuff whilst it's offered, even if a PITA timing wise ...........half of me fancies 4 or 5 months of Northern France (maybe some UK?), the other thinks just moor her up somewhere nice and "chill" (I like my mid afternoon snoozes - that is related to slow refurb progress , despite having a bit more free time available than many others ).

Am also tempted to either build a small sailing dink (Foldable?/ nesting? for the stern of "Wayluya".........or (and??!) some sort of open wooden sailing dink about 17-19 foot as a bay sailer (Gaff? , shoal draft with stub bilge keels and a centre board, for a swinging and drying mooring.....with an old Seagull on the back ).........a bit of a doer upper would be tempting..........

I shall have to do some (more) deep contemplation on the choices.......ZZZZzzzzzzzzz.

Retired, but still do the odd delivery and drive charters. Worked commercially from age 15 for about 25 years towing, fishing, beachcombing and crabbing. Lived aboard for 15 years in both sail and power. Tried to check 'all of the above' but didn't work... Capt Phil

Re: CF Member Demographics

You missed the "live-aboard/cruisers with significant, but not world-wide travel" category.
This might include those who live-aboard and work for roughly half a year, paying for cruising (regionally or locally) the other half year.

Now retired from cruising, we would have been in that demographic.

Re: CF Member Demographics

But we can only tick one option. So the results will rather reflect 'who of the list ... you fit most'.

Pro, world, but nearly stationary liveaboard (below 1k Nm per year) over last 2 years.

Professional mariner for now. Still waiting to be in a good enough financial situation where my wife and I can buy a cruising boat and retire.

Time will show who retired and who got a proper burial at sea ;-)

In choice polls like this it is a regular option to allow multiple ticks. Another example would be:

Are you:
- male,
- female,
- below 25 y.o.,
- over 25 y.o.,

I hope this explains my drift.

RETIRED

Ha ha ha ;-)))

Love,
barnakiel

Yep. Sorts of.

Drifting around not quite as good as sailing around. Still, twice as good as being high and dry ;-)

Cheers,
