Catamaran sleeping suggestions with young child

Hi! We are looking to buy a catamaran to live aboard. We have a young son who will be almost 3. I like the owner’s version for the space, but I’m concerned with him being in the other hull. Most worrisome to me is getting to him if there is a fire. Thoughts on sleeping configuration with a young kid? Should we just do the four bedroom so he can be on the same side? Thanks!

here is how it works if you are sailing,no matter where you put the kid or kids down to sleep at that age they will end up sleeping in mum and dad's bed by the morning!
dad will invariably end up sleeping in the saloon upstairs!

Re: Catamaran sleeping suggestions with young child

Atoll’s experience echoed our own. But what we did when we started with three-year-old twins was have them in the same hull as us. Especially at first, since they can get easily turned around in a new space. It also gave us peace of mind, which we felt trickled down to them. Once they were six or so, we switched things around and were comfortable with them being in the other hull- mainly because we were confident that they could reliably understand and take direction. YMMV

Why not sleep in the guest aft cabin and put the baby in the fore cabin? Then as he gets older you can move over to the owners hull and enjoy the space.

We started when our daughter was about that age. It was not a problem. She liked having her own space. But she was never a fussy sleeper or prone to any misbehavior related to safety (asking her to clean her room was another matter....).

Maybe a baby monitor with camera and audio would help?

Re: Catamaran sleeping suggestions with young child

Just tell the child that if they don't sleep where directed to then they won't be getting a new baby brother or sister. Second thoughts ... the child might ask how it is done!
3 year olds are intensely inquisitive, so maybe my suggestion is a bit risky. Also imagine having guests on board and your son enthusiastically describing how he is helping mum and dad make a new baby. My tertiary qualifications are not in child psychology. All I know is that if you let a 2 or 3 year old loose in the supermarket then they hurtle off in 7 different directions simultaneously. Feel free to totally ignore my suggestion. I would.
