Bumfuzzles give up on sailing, at least for now
Like probably many of our members. I've been following the sailing stories of Pat and Ali.
It's sad to see that it looks like the boat is for sale, and a motorhome is their mode of adventure from here in. I was looking forward to seeing their stories on the second RTW, but looks like that won't happen now.
Full post here.

aye, but they are still adventuring, which does count, especially with 2 young kids.....so they traded sails for tires for a while.....

How sad for the armchair sailors, whoever shall they cast stones at now from the comfort of their keyboards?
Oh, never mind they shall always find someone...
Best of luck to the Bumfuzzles in their future adventures!

I'm going to give Pat so much **** the next time I see him. I mean what's a guy from the mid west doing on a boat anyway?

This depresses me. He makes some valid points. Never let your dream get in the way of your dream.

A 47 year old motorhome? What could go wrong?

He's in a different place in his life. I'll be stoked when my kids leave home, it doesn't mean I'm not stoked they're here right now.
I know they've had amazing experiences but I can't blame them for changing it up. They stopped one part of their lives to go sailing, they'll be changing it up again. And to be honest for "non-sailors" they did circumnavigate. I'd have that guy on a boat with me going anywhere.

Re: Bumfuzzles give up on sailing, at least for now
the bumfuzzles were adventurers from the get go, despite the naysayers.
their new to them camper is awesome character piece and they will have a grande time.
i am looking forward to watching their adventures unfold.

Re: Bumfuzzles give up on sailing, at least for now
There is this myth/lie out there that cruisers are sailors or even want to be!
For the vast majority of cruisers I meet it has nothing to do with the boat but rather with the destination. My wife and I have talked about the Rving thing ourselves and love the idea.
Just look at all the similarities:
12v power
Holding tanks
Engines
Expensive full hook-up camgrounds or free dry camping (read anchoring and marinas)
****...the list goes on an on except when things go to **** in a RV you just pull over. When they go to **** on a boat....well.....you know.
I love the fact that the Bums have always caused flack in the true sailor community and will love to follow them along doing things THEIR WAY.

That seems to be the case with a lot of Sea of Cortez folks; maybe it's true in other areas of the world but I haven't been there.
Call me weird but I actually enjoy sailing. A lifetime on the sea will teach you a lot more than a lifetime driving an RV.
But for sure people are on boats for different reasons. Some look at them like floating RV's, some just need a place to crash, some like to race, and others are just life-long sailor types. I honestly couldn't imagine a scenario where I was land bound and boat-less. I'd be on craigslist in 10 minutes finding some sailing dinghy on the cheap and work up from there.

They have a life beyond sailing. Good for them.

Rebel - to be fair to the Bums before chilling in the Sea of Cortez they did sail around the world

Not really...I get the same comments from Cruisers around the world.
Maybe your opinion comes from your SOC experience? I have the advantage of shipping gear around the world and getting to know my clients. They are not buying gear to be sailors...but to be comfortable at their Destination...at least that is what they are telling me anyway...what does this Bozo know?
