Re: Bullying on the Waterway ( Sunset Lake, Miami )
Oh, I know how the police will react. They'll take his word for everything and anybody going up against him will be prosecuted. He's a political being, he's power hungry, and he's good at it. I don't have the skills to fight with a guy like that. I believe in right & wrong but that doesn't play out in a situation like this because people like him don't ever let a little thing like right & wrong bother them at all. Guys like him run the whole show these days. Fred Karlton is a bad man.

Damn, it must really be scary in the Banana States of America. I'm really glad I don't live there.

Politically connected or not, the law is the law. You should make his location the site of the weekly raft up. Don't engage with him in anyway and be respectful of his neighbors but be there ib large numbers on a regular basis. He will punish himself by going apoplectic far better than anyone else could.

Re: Bullying on the Waterway ( Sunset Lake, Miami )
I just plugged the coordinates for Sunset Lake into the nav system. I think I will start taking a couple of extra days on the trips to the bahamas, just so I can anchor out and enjoy the music.

You would think that he would be friendlier, considering that the cruising community could start complaining to the local businesses about his behaviour, not good for a commissioner to have the business community down on him.

Re: Bullying on the Waterway ( Sunset Lake, Miami )
All of the humour aside, I think it would be a really powerful thing for the boating community to work together on issues such as this one.
In areas where individuals and municipalities are infringing on the lawful rights of boaters we should find strength in numbers.
By planning to gather at known problem areas, and armed with the appropriate legislative documentation to educate and officials who try to roust legitimate boaters from legal locations, we could make it clear that bullying us will not be tolerated.
How about a coalition of Florida boaters in that area making a plan to take the hot air outta this wind bag. If the incidence goes up tremendously the neighbours and the boaters complaints will perhaps have an effect on a (possibly) reluctant to act police department....

Re: Bullying on the Waterway ( Sunset Lake, Miami )
A high powered attorney threatened a good friend of mine who a very large internet SEO / marketing / adwords guy, my friend was 100% legal and in the right. Anyway, my buddy bought a pay per click google ad words campaign so anytime you typed in this attorneys name it would be the first post on the very top of google or on the right side on the first page. It linked to all kinds of dirt and shady dealings, he said he paid something like 30 cents a click and his budget was about $200 total. Public humiliation is always something to be considered.

Remember folks:
A dictator can tell you to go to hell
A diplomat makes you look forward to the trip.
A person you can't live with others, probably has difficulty living with himself.
Its his problem.

It would be fun to buy the lot next to him and put in a dingy dock, BBQ's, picnic tables, and public showers. Anyone win the lottery???

If indeed the local police refuse to keep him in compliance with the law, the newspapers and TV stations are your friend. Document as much of any confrontation as possible. Document all interaction with police. The Miami Herald loves nothing better than busting politicians and/or rich businessmen for getting special treatment.

Unfortunately, you guessed wrong. Ol Freddie is a well known Liberal bridge raiser round these parts. He's a miserable self entitled kook. Most people give him a wide berth and laugh at him behind his back which pisses him off even more. There are a lot of places where you can anchor overnight where no one cares. Wasting your valuable time with this loony tune is pointless. He's alone and in bad company.

It sounds like we have the location for the next cruiser party in the area.
