Buddy boat to Bahamas

I am looking for an experienced Gulf Stream crosser to buddy boat with me for my first crossing. I am presently in North Palm Beach at the Old Port Cove Marina about 4 miles north of the Lake Worth inlet. My boat is an Island Packet 37. I have limited offshore experience and am waiting for mild conditions. My planned route is Lake Worth to West End, then Great Sale, Green Turtle, Marsh Harbor. I can't quite understand the desire to sail in groups. If you are worried about sinking, take a life raft and an EPRIB. Other than that you just have folks to worry about in addition to yourself. The buddy boat is a false security that will in fact be distracting.
