Not much recently, no papers or much in the way of TV out in the North Sea.
Heading up to some patch of water north of the Shetlands next week to move a rig (up around 62 north). Hopefully I'll have better luck.
No newspapers up there either.

Yeah Nigel it was on the news here this morning...

Runaway oil rig drags tugs through Alaskan storm - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

It will throw a spanner in the works for sure....

Re: BP Will Be Feeling Smug

I doubt if BP or any other oil company is feeling smug about the difficulties Shell Oil is experiencing.

I agree. Bad news for one oil company is bad news for all, especially when there are environmental concerns.

Had a friend who did the Russia convoys on tankers during WW2.
Had photos of an aircraft carrier with her fwd flight deck rolled back like a sardine tin.

Re: BP Will Be Feeling Smug

Whats bad for one is bad for another, Besides, there is and will be no loss of Crude oil, the 143k gl of ULSD will be removed, the other 12k gal of lubricants is biodegradeable but will also be salvaged. Over 500 people involved in the effort to get the Rig and its people to safety and only 3 minor first aids. The Aiviq lost multiple engines ( has 4) and had to cut free than by the time they restarted all 4 and got reconnected to their tow the weather turned for the worse and their cable parted. This wont be another Exxon etc or anything remotely close.

so whats BP or anyone else got to feel smug about?

Great job Shell??? A great job would include a measure of concern for the inhabitants of this planet that are not oil excecutives. G*d d*mn oil companies shouldn't be up there in the first place. It seems they will not be happy until they have poisoned every body of water on OUR planet. Mark my words, the Arctic will kick their butts properly and end up as our Northern "Dead Zone".

You do realize you are on a forum which is largely populated by owners of fiber glass boats (petroleum product), most of which have engines and generators which run on DIESEL , which have electronics which have wiring encased in plastic (petroleum product) etc.etc? Oh and the internet? Yeah- would not exist without fossil fuels.

Unless you are protesting from a hut made of salvaged animal skins using smoke signals as your communications device its rather hypocritical to bemoan big evil oil companies when you are using their products every. single. day.
