Bahamas question

We are in Eleuthera, Bahamas and need some repair parts shipped ASAP. Does anyone have advice or experience in getting this done?

Re: Bahamas question

Makers Air is good at forwarding freight, if you can get it to their terminal at Fort Lauderdale Executive airport they will take it wherever they fly. If they don’t go to Eleuthera check with those that do. Also the fellow who runs my island WiFi will forward freight, he lives in Miami and on Grand Bahama Island. When we got our modem from him he told us he could ship any parts we needed to us wherever we might be.

Re: Bahamas question

Former home was in Southern California, sold it to the drummer of the band Quiet Riot and downsized into our Hatteras where we now live aboard. We are currently in Nassau awaiting good weather to head down to Georgetown after replacing our black water pump.

I am sure you already know this: If you scan and email a copy of your cruising permit you can avoid paying import duties on repair parts. Have a copy put into your package and send one to the air service or freight forwarder.

Re: Bahamas question

Woodland Hills, you are a lifesaver! Also trying to repair black water pump; rudder cables, and galley sink handle. We’ll look for you in Georgetown in a few weeks when we get there-a cold beer on us.

Re: Bahamas question

I would consider a stop in Nassau. There are good hardware stores, plumbing supply houses and marine supply shops. I was able to obtain a 24v Sealand diaphragm pump for $200 more than the US price, but I also got all the hoses, clamps and fittings to go from 2 3/8” at the tank to 1 1/2” at the pump to 1” at the seacock for $75 in one day. Also got a bit of wood to make a mount at the lumber yard for free from the cutoffs. Car rental was $50 for one day. Unless you are doing a straight replacement (we were not) it might be cheaper in the long run once you add shipping to the airport and then the cost to deliver to Bahamas.
