B&G chartplotter C-map

Hi. Hope I am in the right area.

I bought a B&G Vulcan 9 that came with C-map installed. I have spent hours fiddling with the chart plotter. I am used to Navionics, which I have on an iPad, but compared to the Navionics, the C-map is cartoonish. I find no way to get contours, structures..you know..the detail that I have in Navionics.

Is there anyone that can help? I did do the "update" via memory card, so , that wasn't the fix....

It may be that the C-Map you have installed is a “Continental” chart (North America for example) or other large region. The continental charts have all of the vector data in them for obstructions etc., however they don’t display the details like a localized chart, which of course you would probably have to purchase and download.

C-Maps customer service has been pretty good IMO, I would suggest giving them a call and talking to a rep for a better explanation.

As far as details vs Navionics, remember that the “sonar charts” are mostly estimations built off satellite images. We have found them to be fairly accurate though. C-Map shows some obstructions that do not show on Navionics in our experience.

Hope that helped some.

Agree completely. C Map sucks.
