Are you cruising with kids?
Did you know there is a social group here for us?
Cruisers & Sailing Forums - Cruising with Kids
There are only 11 members, and I am sure there are way more than 11 families out there sailing!
My daughter who is 11 and son who is 6 would enjoy some other ocean-loving, sailing, cruising pen-pals from around the world (do kids even know what "pen-pals" are anymore?) to share their experiences with!

Re: Are you cruising with kids?
Hi, although not full time cruising we still take a few weeks holiday sail with our soon-to-be 10 year old daughter every summer. Last year was tough, since we spent most of the summer outside of Finland with few kids in the marinas, and even less kids with a common language.
Joined, thanks for the suggestion Don. I'm not a very prolific poster, but will try to contribute

May be a stupid question? How do you get the kids a certifiable education?

Re: Are you cruising with kids?
OK all, my 11 year old daughter would like to get in touch with other sailing kids out there.. My six year-old too, but I'll have to do the typing for him My daughter would like to say that she is "talented with animals but not really with sailing."
Great, thanks a lot for embarrassing your old dad, sweetheart!
(BTW she is a very good helmswoman, just very humble. She LOVES snorkeling (Dad won't let her take SCUBA lessons yet)and science and birding and animals and fishing and art..... and minecraft and Pokemon) Oh well, I guess we all need a few vices.
Anyway kids, you can PM us for contact info for a sailing pen-pal...

Many, I think, do it by home schooling, & then having the kids take placement tests, along with the standardized tests. Much as is done when changing schools or colleges.
Plus many parents/families allow their kids to decide if they want to stop sailing for a few years so that they can go to high school with their peers. Or sometimes by taking a leave from the boat, & going to boarding school, sans parents (of course). Since there are a good number of events in high school/at that age which are fun to participate in. And by then kids are pretty much old enough to make decisions about the path that they take.
Though sometimes the decisions that parents make for them aren't realized as being good ones until much later on in life. Including ones about their schooling, & where they live.
Note that it's quite common for kids who spend lots of time sailing, or traveling, especially those who live aboard, to be much advanced as compared to others of the same age. Socially, & academically.
My neighbor's son of age 3 was easily at the age 6 levels in these regards.

I would have to get re-educated to teach a kid. Technology has been moving so fast. I find I an a dummy.
