Anyone not in lockdown and still able to sail?
Hello,
We are presently in lockdown in the UK, I just wondered if anyone is still able to sail in any other parts of the world?

In Saint Martin, lockdown here. Pretty much the entire Eastern Caribbean is in lockdown. The general advice is to stay where you are, if you leave you may not find another country to let you in.

Re: Anyone not in lockdown and still able to sail?
We're presently going port to port in Nova Scotia. Though our winter marina has just advised us, that once we return, we are to stay put. We're hoping to install a mast on the boat anyway, and have lots to do to get ready for that, so we weren't planning to go anywhere during that time.
The coast watch has already reported us to the RCMP; and we've talked to them, without any sort of warning. To my knowledge; moving about, by boat, within the province is not restricted.
Getting the mast across the border... we'll let you know.
Cheers all.
Paul.

Sweden is still open. We will go sailing soon. We can’t cross the borders to Denmark or Norway but as long as we stay in our own archipelago it’s allowed.

Re: Anyone not in lockdown and still able to sail?
Florida's Gov. DeSantis has issued a lockdown order through April. Generally, this means boaters must stay put, but essential activities (e.g. exercise, food shopping, laundry, etc.) are allowed. Marine services are considered essential, so boat movement for this is allowed. A lot of marinas, including mooring fields, are closed to anyone coming in, and this includes dinghy dock access. The latter restriction makes anchoring out problematic. Beaches are closed. On the Gulf Coast side of the state, boaters can leave a marina for short (e.g. either daylong or days long durations) trips, and they still are permitted re-entry.

Re: Anyone not in lockdown and still able to sail?
We are totally locked down in The Bahamas. Not allowed to sail between islands. No boats allowed to enter. We will try and go ashore to find supplies tomorrow but don’t expect to find much. It’s a bit gray whether that is even allowed at this point. At any rate it will be the last opportunity I am sure. After that it’s hang out until we run out of enough stuff that it’s more appealing to head back to infected Florida...

Grit,
That’s interesting. I’m assuming Newfoundland is the same. Way down on my list of options is to sail straight from here, Dominica -central Caribbean, to Newfoundland. Not likely but it may come to that sometime in June. I was thinking of putting into Grand Bank and clearing in there. Otherwise I’ll need to go half way round the island to Lewisporte. Another few days of sailing.
But that is June, and yet another world of rules for Im sure.

Re: Anyone not in lockdown and still able to sail?
There was some confusion here in Queensland but we can still go boating. Can't see how going from the yacht to home is going to harm anyone as long as you do not stop and socialise with anyone.
Cheers

Anyone not in lockdown and still able to sail?
Currently in Boot Key Harbor (Florida Keys). We can come and go as long as we don’t go to the mainland. Just spent the last two weeks sailing and anchoring among the gulf side out islands. Returned yesterday.
That being said, the harbor isn’t accepting any new boats.

To the best of my knowledge, Canadians can "come home" from foreign. You'll have to isolate for 14 days (now federal law), but other than that, what are they going to do? Refuse entry to a Canadian, coming home?
Still, I'd give the local RCMP a call, or CBSA, to be sure.
I assume you're on the bigger boat? I'm not sure I'd want to do it on the 33. It'll be a tiring trip in any case.
Cheers, and good luck. That'll be a passage for the books.
Paul.

Re: Anyone not in lockdown and still able to sail?
I've got a message in to Lewisporte Marina to see if I can get any info on there current and projected state. So far, no response, but I'll let you know if I get anything Howard.
Newfoundland and Nova Scotia currently have mandatory 14-day quarantines for all people coming into the provinces. Even those coming in from other provinces. This presents me with a problem since my boat is currently on the hard in Lewisporte, and I have no other home to go to. If the marina is closed (as I assume it is), then I can't even contemplate going to the boat.
I'm beginning to fear the entire season may be lost.

You can still sail around Puget Sound in Washington State in the US.

Re: Anyone not in lockdown and still able to sail?
there's a fair bit of confusion in australia as every state has different rules, and then different interpretations of those rules
in nsw boating is allowed but non-essential travel is not. valid excuses for travel include
i) moving house
ii) moving between homes ie holiday house
we live-aboard...if we move to another port are we travelling ? if so is it allowable travel ? no-ones knows...
cheers,

I sailed in Sydney today without a problem. Had the harbour to ourselves. Exercise, moving house, working, i had my excuses ready.

Re: Anyone not in lockdown and still able to sail?
In Maryland, recreational boating is not allowed,
BUT recreational fishing for sustenance of you or your family from a boat is permitted with proper social distancing and less than 10 people.
So, bring your rod, and get a license online.
