Anyone getting ready to head South

My wife and I are waiting out this weather in Port Washington and are then making the hop South to Cape May and beyond. Anyone else doing them same? Anyone in Sandy Hook, City Island, 79th st. Looking for buddy boats or anyone that wants to kill some bad weather boredom.

We haven't met ONE other cruiser since leaving Maine two weeks ago and could use some company! Going slightly crazy talking only to each other.

Why yes, Ben, we're heading south even as we speak... towards Tasmania!

I doubt if that is what you had in mind, but this is an international forum...

Hope you get some company.

Re: Anyone getting ready to head South

Yes we are headed south as soon as the weather clears - hope to leave sunday from Malta to Lampedusa for a short stop then on to Tunisia -

on the serious side - you need to get a step on as we have done that trip twice and you are late getting out because the fronts now come more often and for a longer duration

If you had an ssb on board there is a huge community out there headed that way that you can connect with but with no ssb it becomes harder -

good luck in your travels

Yep, looked like we had a window there for a sec and then it closed. Happy travels to all you international folks. Best of luck.

We got caught in the LIS with unfavorable currents etc. and so now are stuck waiting out this weather in port Washington. You guys look like you have a better window on Monday. Nw shifting to sw for a nice push up the bay. I'm feeling like we screwed up leaving so late. Just gotta get to cape may. We are the. Going to do Delaware to candd to Chesapeake. It looks like tonight into tomorrow could work for a run down to ac. Then we could catch that sw shift into the bay on a flood.

I am wondering too, it won't get much better. I would move the boat from Port Washington to Great Kills or Sandy Hook, today. Then plan for a one night jump to Cape May Sat-Sun or Sun-Mon. Winds are mainly West so waves won't build up much in 15-25kn.

Re: Anyone getting ready to head South

We are moving aboard as we speak, have rented our house, are hauling out for a check and bottom job, and should be able to head down within the next two weeks. Not certain about destinations, and are never on a schedule. We are in Louisiana but the even the mild winters here are way too cold for us and must be totally unbearable way up north here in the US.

Re: Anyone getting ready to head South

Unbusted, if you are still in Port Washington let me know as we are local
(should be able to see your boat with a few more leaves off the trees)
and would be happy to spend some time and say hello.
Above based on you and you wife still talking to each other!
Don't feel pushed if you don't feel comfortable,
there will be days to come that will feel right to make for Cape May.
As long as you are not on a tight schedule.

We went home for a couple days and will be in AC until Sunday atleast. Let me know if you want to meet up and cruise some of the Chesapeake... where is your final destination? We are ultimately going around Florida....

Thanks so much! We actually just took off and are anchored in Atlantic highlands. Going to wake up at midnight and head for Atlantic city.
