Anyone else do the RTI this year?

Bit lumpy round the back, 35 knots, 15 to 20 ft waves, wind against tide, three multis capsized, many monos lost masts. All good fun.

We wimped out and kept the kite in its bag, but still managed a respectable 7.5 hours.

Fun and frolics later at the folly.

If you have instagr.am I posted pics at various stages round the island. username is pteron.

Re: Anyone else do the RTI this year?

Congrats on completing the race no small achievement in the conditions yesterday. 500 yachts retired in the conditions and sadly some yachts damaged and capsized.

For those not familiar with the Isle of Wight its a little island on the South UK Coast so a race around the island is about 70 miles. However, there are no safe harbours for half of the exposed southern side. With 1900 yachts taking part its probably best to avoid the whole area if you are not racing.

Oh and the winning yacht? a Contessa 26 sailed by the son of Mr Jeremy Rogers.

Thanks, it helps to be on a good solid boat!

Pah, there's only one win that matters, line honours!

We saw Prince de Bretagne heading home... they had finished and sailed back to a point where we still had two hours to go!

Great pic of Prince here: All sizes | Prince de Bretagne. | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
