AnglaisInHull: Change of Username

In case anyone notices / cares / is curious:

"AnglaisInHull" is now user "Mirage35".

Why? Because the only other place I had that username was on a Twitter account, dormant since 2016, that has now been hacked. So I figure that changing my name here is easier than getting Twitter's attention.

And - I had completely forgotten all of this but I must have had some gut feel right from the start - my "real" name on Twitter was "A. Nonny Mouse". So whoever took over the account can have fun with it, there's nothing of value lost to me.

Re: AnglaisInHull: Change of Username

Now the question is - can I change the thread title? Because it occurred to me just too late that including my old username in the title would have been more helpful.

For Mirage35 (anyone who cares or is curious), it 99.9% likely your email address and password was also captured in the Twitter hack. In fact your email address has probably been hacked a few times and perhaps has been sold on the dark web more than once.

While there are a number of free on-line sites where you can find some details of when / where your username and email address(es) have been breached, I have found https://haveibeenpwned.com to be one of the best. While you can check anyone's username and/or email address against their database, they only give details of breaches from general public sites.

They will also check your email against breaches from "sensitive sites" however you have to confirm (on line) you are the real owner of the email address before the results are released to you (and you only). Sensitive sites include places like 'Adult FriendFinder (2015), Adult FriendFinder (2016), Adult-FanFiction.Org, Ashley Madison, Beautiful People, Bestialitysextaboo, Brazzers, Carding Mafia (December 2021), Carding Mafia (March 2021), CrimeAgency vBulletin Hacks, CTARS, CyberServe, Doxbin, Emotet, Fling, Florida Virtual School, Freedom Hosting II, Fridae, Fur Affinity, Gab' and another 29 more.

Re: AnglaisInHull: Change of Username

Thanks for the reminder, always worth keeping an eye on these things. My email address is public information and is definitely "out there" but there's not much one can do about that. The password on Twitter associated with it was not used anywhere else.

And I have a throwaway gmail account that I use to register on occasional websites that I don't really want to be associated with. Think what you like, that's generally things like questionable "news" sites that I read when I want to see what the other half is thinking.
