Aluma craft s-12 sail repair and rigging

Just picked up a used aluma craft s-12. The sail is in need of some repair.
I believe sail tape will repair the majority of the small Rips and tears.

However at the top of the sail seems that it should have a pocket in the sail for the to be connected to the top pole.

I have included pictures of this and another part that needs repair. Also need to know how to "rig" it and what ropes and pullyies may be missing.

Re: Aluma craft s-12 sail repair and rigging

I hope it's a fun boat for you and yours.

Top pole = Yard, vertical pole=mast, horizontal pole=boom.

Wondering if stitching on a new pocket for yard and boom would be a way to get a season or two out of the sail. Might be a cold winter's indoor activity to make a new one from scratch or a kit from Sailrite.

Be sure to try some 'Googling' or other internet searches, to see what is out there for this boat.

Re: Aluma craft s-12 sail repair and rigging

I have done some searches on this boat, not a whole lot out there on it.

the boom end of the sail also should have a pocket?

any suggestions of fabric to use to repair this?

Any suggestion on sail tape? I see lots of different ones out there.

What kind of sail is this?

Gunter rig, by speculation of the yard being almost vertical.
Sails will be Polyester or Nylon according to below.
There are some mentions of S12's and S14's on other forums.
Gotta love those old brochures!

Somewhere I think I saw made mentioned that Rolly Tasker may have been the original sailmaker for this boat. It might be worth hitting them up for the plans or see if Sailrite would share their notes with you to help you repair the sail.

Another idea might be to study small boat rigs at CLC or Duckworks BBS.

Re: Aluma craft s-12 sail repair and rigging

I spoke to sailrite yesterday. I order supplies to repair the current sail.

As this is a 1st sail boat experience for me and my kids, if we like it I'll looking into replacing the sail.
Sail rite does have a custom kit for this sail. I was quoted $375 for a red and white sail.
Once I have made the repairs I will post new pictures.
The only other thing I need to figure out is how to set up all the lines for it.

Re: Aluma craft s-12 sail repair and rigging

Hi everyone!
We have recently acquired this sailboat in southern MN and also looking for more information on it. Been googling and there is limited info. May try reaching out to Alumacraft to see what they can provide.

Does anyone know the actual weight of this sailboat?. It’s very heavy (seen this mentioned in other posts), but we are trying to figure out the best way to pick up and transport it?

Any advice and info is greatly appreciated!

Alyssa
