ALBA was a 55’ wooden sailing yacht from
Denmark which in 12 June 1991 struck Hogsty Reef attol
Bahamas at night with 8 mostly Swedes on board. A mayday brought a USCG helicopter which diverted from an appendicitis
rescue on a Soviet ship and landed all 8 sailors in Inagua. My job later was to inventory the rescued
gear. There was a press release to USCG sector
Miami on 12 June 1991. I’m a maritime historian half Swedish from
Bahamas and would like any amplifying info on this casualty please- like owner name and contact and survivor statements? Photos? Rescuer perspectives? I publish a column on wrecks in Bahamas for the
Nassau Tribune. Thank you! Eric
