Re: A Boat in Trouble in Bass Strait

Thanks to everyone for their concern. Glad to report that our latest info, valid mid day Thursday local time, was that they had recovered the parachute and gotten under way towards Wineglass Bay. Position 40d 21m S, 149d 29m E... about 50 miles East of Cape Barren island. Conditions were moderating and all was well on board.

Cheers,

Jim

Re: A Boat in Trouble in Bass Strait

Personally I admire those few folks that are out there in small boats. They are responsible for some pretty adventurous sailing over the years. Sure I can't disagree that a larger faster boat has its advantages such as arriving at port quicker but at what cost? The same argument can be put to those slow 40 foot boats when you compare their times with something that really moves like a Dashew 60 or 70 footer or maybe a Cat. Hats off to those with smaller offshore boats.

You eliminate many potential hazards by doing this because you are not running around trying to make things better putting yourself in constant danger for no real reason. I mean assuming you have enough searoom to relax. Up were I'm at the sea isn't the problem its approaching harbors or crossing bars that kill people each year. Once you commit to a bar crossing there is no turning back.

Great news. I for one will be happily envious when I hear they have reached Wineglass Bay, which remains my dream destination.

It is when you find out your 3 days early at the marina.. and think of where you could have stopped...

And the water is seriously cold - swimming just isn't an option!

Re: A Boat in Trouble in Bass Strait

Actually, that's not Wineglass Bay. Those pictures are a fake. Stop trying to mislead people, they might sail in there in their boats and be really disappointed. Far better that they just keep sailing onto Hobart, or Melbourne, or wherever.

Here's a REAL photo, from my last trip to Wineglass Bay. You see, I just like beachcombing, which is why I like the place...

Really... honest...
