Value Price So Much Lower than Asking Price

I'm looking at a '73 Newport 41 and the private seller has listed the boat at $ 50K.

I have two sources that put the value of the boat at $30K.

What do you think is a fair price for this boat if the survey is acceptable?

What condition is it in??? I've looked at a couple and some weren't worth $30,000 and others were probably worth more than $60,000. What are your sources for the value of the boat?? Have they actually seen closed sales and condition of those boats??

The Newport 41's are really nice boats. A chance to get a C&C Redline 41 without the balsa core head aches of the C&C boats. Should make a fast cruiser and a boat that won't embarass in the beer can races.

Equipment might be a big difference. You can buy a good running good looking 1970 Porsche 914 for $10K. A decent 1970 914-6 will bring $30K-$50K
You can't buy a real 914 GT in any condition for under $75K and they're more like $200K for a nice one. A perfect one with a good race history will bring over $300K.
A 916, a 914 GT with a different roof and different bumpers will be more than $500K.
They're all 1970 Porsche 914's.

yeah, but you'd sell mom before the porsche, if i know y'all at all--- i know i would....

same with my boat-- mom knows that , also.....
some folks love their boats enough not to want to sell for real-- testing waters or some tease thing. i never underztood that one.
some dont realize this market suxx as bad as it does.
mny reasons for way high asking price-- watch those--in a year, that price will drop.

Keep looking around for one that is selling for 30k in the same condition. Never fall in love with a particular boat.

All of the cars in California are 100% rust free!
There are many 914's but only one......... Landfall.
I sold a couple 914's to get her. If my mom was worth a lot of cash, umm, well, umm.

if there is a great difference between askin gprice and surveyors reported market value-- offer just under market value, watch the folks blanche and see them next yr after they lower the price, or find a different boat or pay their requested cash for the passion you found..is easy..LOL...

Is the pricey one loaded up with goodies? SSB, watermaker, dinghy, davits, new sails- this would account for a price difference.

Valuation:
BoatUS - $30,238.
Buc Book - $32,100

The boat does not come with SSB, dinghy, or davits. The Perkins 4-107 is original with no rebuild. The hull paint needs to be done. The topside needs to be repainted and anti-skid applied. Recent maintenance:
water pump">raw water pump 08
Batteries 10-08
engine instrument panel - late 08
breaker panel and master switch
Wind/ speed instruments installed - mid 09
High pressure pump 03-10
LED lights 03-10
electric fuel bleed pump 06-10

The interior is original to the boat but with missing V-berth cushions.

i would offer 20k wit5h the splaination regarding blue book and what you feel is rationale behind your offer. has this boat been on market long? is the hull really painted??if so, is a reason for reducing offering price even farther-- gelcoat is far superior to paint.. but then is a newport.oops. sorry, isnt like it is a swan.
is a chevy with a caddy price. make it lower. is all goood. if they dont accept your 20k offer, which is , sad to say, HIGH in this market, then i would look elsewhere for another one. there were plenty made.

agreed, 20k or less... that boat is nothing special acording to the description and so far every boat i have seen 'cept one has been about 60% of the book value or survey valuation...
