Tax Refund

Hi forum friends,

Does anyone know if there is a tax refund on goods bought in the US by non US citizens and taken abroad to the boat?

Thanks
Ron

Re: Tax Refund

Some US states, like Texas and I believe Florida, will refund sales tax or exempt this tax when foreign visitors leave for their home country or depart with these goods in a prescribed length of time; however, taxes may be due in the jurisdiction where they are imported.

Re: Tax Refund

Most merchants will mail stuff out of State/country and not charge sales tax. I've had a few merchants not charge me sales tax when I explained I was from out of state and getting on a plane and leaving the State. That took a bit of talking, however.
Failing that or finding a State that will refund sales tax, a few States like Oregun don't have any sales tax. You can buy anything there and not pay any sales tax as long as you don't have to register in another State. Even then, some States won't charge saies tax when you register the boat/vehicle there. It's a hodge podge so you need to check with each STate to find out what there policies are.
