Suggestions Wanted for Decent Long-Distance Shipper !

Hi,

So we're considering a move to Brisbane, and would like to have our sailboat with us.

Anyone ever shipped a 40 ' boat from the North American east coast to Australia? We're in Toronto so we have a lot of departure-point options.

Got any leads on a reliable and reasonable firm?

dock express whips all types of boats. mega yacht and small sailboats. You pay per foot, expensive but you have no wear and tear on the boat.

Contact a Maritime Cargo Broker. There are many cargo vessels that can lift and block a 40' on deck. We shipped a 60', 96 ton boat from Fla to Seattle (actually landed in Vancouver, CN due to US laws). Aprox cost was $35k. The problem with the yacht shippers like Dockwise, etc. is you are dependent on their schedules. Shipping as general cargo just requires your broker to find the right ship and then getting your boat to it. You just pull up alnogside, the crane lifts you and they secure you on deck.

They do move thousands of boats this way, just thought the video was interesting on what can happen.

That's what can happen with a dual block system. I prefer a single frame with a single block centered and the straps hooked with safety lines to keep them from spreading apart.

Just as an aside, there is a mammoth thread here on CF about the Customs & AQIS procedures and formalities that need to be observed when bring a yacht or boat into Australia. Just skip towards the end to separate the fact from fiction.

Aussie_Sequoia is a member here, and they have just completed bringing a Cat in on her own hull. They have ever so kindly made a website (which basically condenses the abovementioned theread into fact only) that gives you uptodate date info. Website can be found here.
