Interior Ceiling Panels

Ok, so here is the issue. My ceiling panels are starting to come down in in the V berth and aft berth. They were help up by valcro, some original some put up by the precious owner. Is there a better way to hang the panels so that they do not come down all the time?

Re: Interior Ceiling Panels

Welcome to the forum...I must say, Velcro is a convenient way to remove panels. That said, do they have to be removable? All the ones I ever had were screwed into battens with something like #6 ovalhead stainless screws.

Re: Interior Ceiling Panels

I thought about that and they do not have to be removable per say but I do need to get them down now and then because of the wiring for the lighting. And I am not sure about screwing into the fiberglass all over the place. Then again, that would fix the issue. hmmmmmm

Re: Interior Ceiling Panels

Kinda depends on the surface. Nothing disgusts me more than fun fur roofs.
My couch roof is two mould epoxied together. My ceilings a plastic and smooth.
Taking a thin sheet of polymer and heating it into shape has been done to make removable panels. Chris Craft 70 years ago use Car headliners and they still make sense in some boats. Anything but wood to avoid that closed coffin look

Re: Interior Ceiling Panels

There are plastic click together fittings used on larger yachts where the panels are thin plywood covered with material.
Try Professional Boatbuilder.

Re: Interior Ceiling Panels

Screws into the core with finishing washers.
If your core gets wet from inside the boat you have already sunk anyway!
or
If you're OCD install "thread-serts" with 5200 or epoxy instead.

I am a little OCD but my girl is CDO, she alphabetizes.

I have not thought about something like that, cool idea

Re: Interior Ceiling Panels

I think what Seawind cats uses on the big boats is something similar to the Beauclip you showed. On our 1160, Seawind used velcro, but both sides are like very small plastic bristles - not any fuzzy hook and loop stuff. They hold the velcro on with double-sided tape that eventually fails (our experience). I scraped off the tape and glued on the velcro with 4200 Fast Cure, and it's been solid since. When these two velcro strips get pushed together, it's a firm hold, almost like they snap together.

From pics-it appears you have plywood attached to grp deck,so you have something to screw into.
I suggest #8 x 3/4" SS flat or oval head woodscrews thru #8 SS finish washers.
Easy to install/remove with portable drill/screwgun.
Cheers/Len
