Have you tried GIO? They offered me a third party policy at a reasonable price, but require an out of water survey. Regards, Richard.

I think the reason they ask for a survey is to assess your boat's potential of injuring someone. Regards, Richard

G'Day Roger,

FWIW, we got 3d party only here in Oz from Nautilus. No info on relative rates nor reliability, hope to never need it!

Cheers,

Jim and Ann s/v Insatiable II lying Glouster Passage, Qld,Oz

Hi Roger

What reason are they giving for refusal? Is it as soon as you say trimaran?

Angry Insurance Woes

[Second thread with same title and subject - threads merged. TJ]

2 years ago I bought a Crowther Impala tri. I managed to get insurance with Nautilus. This year they declined to renew. The reason they gave was 'it was a trimaran'. I've searched everywhere to no avail. So I'm now the proud owner of an unsailable, unsaleable $80.000 sailboat. Sucks.

When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping.

If you're in the US try Keenan Marine Insurance, LLC.
505 White Plains Rd, Suite 108
Tarrytown, NY 10591

I have no affiliation. My current policy is with National Marine Underwriters (Annapolis) -- that's another source for you. No complaints with them, but Keenan recently quoted a considerably lower price for what seems like equal coverage.

or just forget about the insurance companies. Had a lot of fun with State farm. My roof was ripped off and then the fun began. Never felt like they were on my side until I brought in a outside well known disaster relief company. Which I didn't want to do. Have a friend that works for one so he drafted a letter on letter head. Maybe consider having liability and drop the value of comprehensive. You just need to weigh the risk like they do

Insurance woes

Thanks for the replies. Nobody in Oz wants to insure large tris. Even smaller trailer tris are a real problem.

In US with survey you can insure it on your home owners policy. So you have coverage and the marinas like you but if something happens you also need legal insurance. That way the insurance company insuring the lawyers and the lawyers defending your insurance can meet and lend you a helping hand. Now with all this insurance you can go visit other places that want to know you have all kinds of insurance. Of course we could decide that we wont go anywhere unless we have insurance certificates and yddaaah. That way well never meet were regulated not to come meet you. Brilliant. How about this screw the insurance. be as responsable as you can be. Come visit me on th e Chesapeake Usa no insurance required.
Insurance health care legal care its all way out of control. I want sick kids to have health care. otherwise i give up. private insurnce is a rook game unless you have lawyers that will cost them more then the claim
