Insurance: Usual deductible for insured

If you are owner of a 40ft catamaran with a value of 450,000$US, what is generally the deductible your insurance company substract from the damage cost they will assume.

Up to the policy, can negotiate a lower deductible by paying higher premiums, or v/v

Re: Insurance: Usual deductible for insured

Like noted above, this depends on the policy. And if the damage happens due to a named storm, there's likely to be a larger deductible.

Typical might be a fixed amount on the hull at $10,000, or percentage as high as 5 or 10%. The deductible (excess) is normally not charged for a total loss on an agreed valuve policy. Many policies have different deductibles for electronics or tenders.

Re: Insurance: Usual deductible for insured

For a 50 ft monohull we have typically seen deductibles for storm damage (named or unnamed) at approx 3% of insured value. For any other claim, it would be approx 1.5% of insured (hull) value.
