Insurance for One Year TransPacific Cruise - Any Recommendations ?

Hey guys. Looks like we have found a boat in CA. Anyhow we need to organize insurance for it. What companies do you guys recommend and not recommend? How much should I be paying? I have sent info to IMS and Bluewater. But after reading about bluewater here on CF I am not so sure about them as there appears to have been some customer service issues. The boat will not be registered under the USGC and will probably be registered in AU.

Cheers Guys!

Try Trident insurance in WA. They prefer vessels $200k+ implying (in their mind) that more expensive vessels are more reliable, safer and less risk.

Come what may!have been good to deal with, of course you only know how good your insurance is when you have to claim.
Cost usually comes down to a percentage of hull value plus third party, Pacific crossing insurance is not cheap about two and a half times Oz cruising area cost in my case.

Brian,
We went with Pantaenius, but that's for NA, Atlantic, and Med insurance. For us and our friends they take about 2-3 weeks for initial reply, but on all follow-up contacts are quick.
Our friends had to file a claim with them (friends' boat got covered with paint from a mega-yacht nearby) and Pantaenius was good about paying for the work. That was in Europe.

Did you guys have to set a rigid itinerary with exact islands and dates? I mean we have 5 months to work that out and I dont want to live by a rigid itinerary.

What boat did we get? Well not one I was even considering! I will leave that for another thread to keep this on topic.

You shouldn't need an itinerary, they will quote you for a specific cruising area that you are covered for.
They will also require you to provide sailing experience details for the crew.

B. HULL DEDUCTIBLE: $2,300.00
C. LIABILITY: $300,000.00
D. PERSONAL EFFECTS: $10,000.00

Medical Limit: $5,000.00
Uninsured Boaters Limit: $25,000.00

Total Premium: $2,853.00

I used Rich Haynie Yacht Insurance as a broker, they are out of Seattle one of their providers is Lloyds of London, they insure everything. Hope this helps.
