Insurance for East Greenland and North West Passage

We were rather hoping that someone on the forum may be able to recommend an insurance company for this season and 2018. Our plans are as per the subject, namely East Greenland but not as far North as Scoresbysund only Kulusuk and then head to Nuuk for the winter, live aboard and look at the NWP the following year.

We have one offer (Topsail) which is eye watering and they will not offer a 3rd party cover, not that we really want to not have full cover, but the option would be nice to compare.

We are a robust Aluminium yacht with 4 seasons experience in the arctic so we are ticking all the boxes.

We are a British registered boat

Any recommendations would be well received Thanks,

2017 would be a better year to go through with the Sail the Arctic Race, and two cruise ships heading through passage in July.

Re: Insurance for East Greenland and North West Passage

Hi Jayfield,

Personally those are just the type of boats/ ships we try to avoid. We had a gut full of cruise ships in Svalbard last season. As for an organised rally.....Definitely not.

But that is just my opinion, plenty would love the chance to try this trip in inadequatly prepared yachts, with the false sense of back up help.

We are cruising the East side of Greenland this season anyway.

I can see though that with a rally they must have organised some form of bulk insurance deal, which would be handy and is the question I asked.

Andy, have you spoken with Pantaenius in Plymouth? not the cheapest but have a very good reputation when things go wrong. Also able to write individual specialist policies.
