I'm in Canada and Need Insurance for Boat in the States

Hey everyone I'm in the process of purchasing a sailboat in Maryland but Im living in Canada and wont be able to get down to it for two more months and Im having a hard time finding an insurance company that will cover a Canadian boat in the USA.

If anybody knows of a good company with low rates that will cover me it'd be much appreciated.

Every decent boat insurance in Canada should allow your boat to be in the USA... or any other country in the world apart from Afghanistan, Iran etc. So.. if the one your looking at only allows your boat inse Canada, you need to look further. There should be a ton of them in Canada though.

The ones I've checked with will only insure it if its in Canadian waters.... just like the American company's wont ensure me because I'm Canadian.

It be great if someone who has been in the same situation could give me the name of their insurance company.

There are hundreds if not thousands of Canadian boats sailing all over the world and many are insured. The ones you checked are for toy boats that can't go off-shore.

According to their website they dont have coverage for Canadians but thanks anyways

I would check with these folks--they have a good reputation and are located in Maryland and I'm sure they've dealt with this problem before.

There are lots of canadians who keep their boats in Point Roberts (which is in the USA) and lots of Americans who keep their boats in Canada in fact their are two where I am berted and I am sure they are not going to have a $250,000 boat without insurance.

I have the opposite problem - bought a boat in Canada, and I'm sailing it in Canada, but cannot insure it as it is a US registered boat now; US insurers won't accept a Canadian survey so I cannot insure it until I take it into the US. You'd think these people would like new business but when you do "weird" things like buying a boat in another country it seems to break all of their rules and boggle their little minds. Fair winds and fast sailing -with or without insurance!

I hear ya Paul, they sure do know how to make life difficult. If it wasn't for the fact that I have to wait a few month before I can get down to the boat then I wouldn't even bother to insure.
