German Resident Buying in the US

Dear All

I am about to purchase a boat in the carribean as a german resident.
The boat is USCG documented and registered in St.Thomas Virgin Islands.
What are the easiest options to register and title the boat as a non US citizen?
What would be the easiest possibility? BVI's, St.Maarten?
My plan is to cruise the carribean for 2 years, after that plans are not decided.

I appreciate your help

regards George

There are many past threads on CF about this same question which you can look at using the search function. But basically it is not big deal, just ask the broker about where you can "flag" the boat. There are numerous islands available and willing to let you set up a "flag of convenience."
- - However, if your plans in the future are to take the boat back to the E.U. you should investigate it carefully to insure it will meet the E.U. standards for such a boat. Otherwise you would have to either modify the boat or sell it when you are finished.

thanks for your quick reply.Couldn't find any sophisticated thread on CF, Don't have a broker either, except the sellers broker and he is based in Florida and wasn't any helpful with ideas.

regards

Some Swiss friends of mine who bought a Hunter Legend a few years (07) back faced a similar quandry as they had no intention of returning to the EU for many years... after looking around at various options they decided to go for Anguila...
They said it was easy and cheap compared to the hoops other options would have had them jumping through....
