My father-in-law got a DUI cutting his grass and drinking beer.If you are in view of the general public it is the same to them as if you were riding it down the road.It is a "means of conveyance".
And this is meant to be " the land of the free". Seriously you need more social democracy or a bit of north African style people power !!

"operating a motor vehicle"

They changed the law so that it reads "any means of conveyance".

That includes a riding lawn mower, bicycle, scooter, horse, i.e. any mode of travel.

On private property !? While drinking beer while sitting on an oversized upside-down Cuisinart® seems headed for a Darwin award it seems unlikely that the charge would have survived a good legal challenge ? Was there more to it ?

Re: DWI / Driver's License Suspension

In the US a vehicle drivers license to operate a boat is not required. What will happen is the his boats insurance rates will rise possibly making it cost prohibitive to insure his boat.

In my mind there is a correlation between the two. If he is willing to drive a car intoxicated then he is probably just as likely to operate a boat intoxicated. Possibly even more so since many people think there are no penalties for operating a boat intoxicated.

No offense, but I have no sympathy for buzzed or drunk vehicle or boat operators. I have just seen or read about too many alcohol related injuries or deaths, on the water especially. Some of these people I used to know.

Re: DWI / Driver's License Suspension

I'd put money down that the FATHER IN LAW was driving out in the street to turn around while cutting the grass. Don't know of any state that requires you to have a drivers license to drive on on your own private property. Don't even know where you could even be charged with public intoxication if you are on YOUR PRIVATE PROPERTY and not being a nuisance.

We used to have car dirt races on my property and nothing the law could do about it.

Must live in a communist state where you can't cut your own grass..
