If you make $60,000 in Ontario, you will pay the Feds and province a total of $11,873 in taxes. If you are retired and can split the income with a spouse, you will only pay $7,752. If you are off sailing and don't own a house, you will pay no municipal taxes. You get free medical and any corruption money you pay is up to you.
Me thinks you exagerate a bit much.

They even have a minimum tax payable in Canada if all else fails and Ontario enacted a tax surcharge on incomes above $500,000.00 a couple of years ago which drove the tax rate to 60% combined. Want to bitch about something, complain about healthcare cause we sure don't get anything for the exorbitant taxes we pay.
Hope this makes your socialist side feel better. I am off to spend the money that the government left me to cruise on $5k month. Hope there is still a Canada pension when I am broke so I can join the $500mth club.

Humm 20% tax rate for Québec 15% tax rate for Canada. And i have not calculated the municipal amount. Google the tax rate for Quebec and Canada since I pay both..
Healthcare... I'm diabetic with no Endo cause there's none available The last Endo that was my regular had over 8000 active patients. One day he left.. No replacement.
My dog as a better health plan than I do.
Then we the Commission Charbonneau , this commission makes Rob Ford look like a choir boy

Re: Cruising on $5,000 / Month
why people would read a thread title and decide that it means it is a good place for a tax rant is always beyond me, please take future tax rants to another thread that have thread titles with "taxes" in them
I was doing a Google search again for cruising budgets (CF threads come up first including this one). I read though to page 7 of the hits and found some blogs I hadn't read before (wish more cruisers with blogs would post something about their expenses). Seems that there are a lot of people spending in the $2000-3000/mo.
But on the ones that do post expenses the costs to maintain the boat are always eye openers. Which always makes me wonder how the cheap cruisers who say they only spend $50/yr on their boats do that.

Simple,- Their boats are in a spiralling decline and their cruising life will be short.

Re: Cruising on $5,000 / Month
I think I could keep a canoe or a pram in good shape for less than fifty dollars a year if I was careful and I had some DIY skills.
Possibly the people that make this claim are not counting the value of barter for their labor or they are only counting money for new "toys" on their boats. Maybe they have the mindset of the ladies that come home from a shopping trip with packages with the exciting news that they saved $200 dollars by their "discounts".

Re: Cruising on $5,000 / Month
My theory is that they are just NUTS!
I have noticed that people spending $3000/mo are doing almost all work themselves, but of course still need to buy supplies and parts.

Re: Cruising on $5,000 / Month
I would continue to cruise on $100 per month, but would have much more money to help the people in places like solomon islands who are not causing the many problems in this world. So as not to be selfish and use this money only for yourself, but to share it with people who deserve it more than you do.

Re: Cruising on $5,000 / Month
Yeah sure, right, might be a new record for someone claiming how cheap they can do it.
Wait a minute, drinking turtle blood and catching birds in the cockpit is $0/mo for over a year. So must be possible.

Miss placed decimal probably. Think $1,000.
Yes/no?
