Cost of Survey

How much should I expect to pay for a sail boat survey in the USA?
50-60' boat, about 100-130K USD value.

About $14 per foot... My Hardin45 was $630 total for its survey.
Anyway that was the cost in New Orleans LA.

$960 for a Catalina 42 on the Eastern Shore from Annapolis. Almost all day job, extensive tick list, extensive sign-off list and CD with all the photos plus written report for insurers.

the survey itself will be 10 -15 per foot plus the cost of the haul out. if you dont have access to a haul out facility, find someone to dive the bottom for you (even if you have documentation regarding the bottom job history).

if you decide to pass and this is a private sale, many sellers will either buy your survey report or agree to refer future prospects to you so you can sell your survey results.

personally, i always want to cut corners and take the inexpensive survey path but, trust me, you get what you pay for. thankfully i have always come to my senses and shelled out for a quality survey.
