Canadian to cruise abroad with a California boat

Hi,
I'm a Canadian citizen with a boat that's with the CA DMV as opposed to the USCG (can't be USCG registered as a Canadian). I want to bring the boat abroad, and I'm wondering what I should do about the CA certification.

Should I register with Canada? Or some other foreign flag of convenience? My kids are US citizens and I heard I could give them 1% ownership and then use the USCG registry. But I also heard that getting insured abroad in the Pacific as a US vessel is much harder and expensive than as another flag (litigeous jurisdiction?).

Anyways, do I need to get out of the CA certification thing? If so, what do you suggest? How to do it and what are expected costs?

For context, we want to leave SF, head to Hawaii, Majuro, Guam and end up in Japan/Korea. Boat is currently in SF. It would then remain in Asia (we live there).

You can register it with Transport Canada and never pay any tax or duty unless/until it hits Canadian waters.

You must ao consider the customs regulations of the country where you live and want to keep the boat in. How long can a Canadian or other foreign-registered boat be in the country. Can you register the boat there and what are the tax implications since you will be importing the boat.
