Buying Insurance as a Foreigner in the US

Hi folks

So I’m from SE Asia and will be going over to Boston next year (2020) for a year of grad school.

I have this idea to buy a boat while there and liveaboard while in Boston. After school is done, I’ll probably take anotheryear or so to slowly sail back to Asia.

So I’m researching various aspects of feasibility of this plan and the one thing I can’t seem to get a lot of good info on is how the insurance will work for the year that I want to liveaboard in Boston.

I know the marinas will require insurance if I want to berth the boat there. I won’t be doing any cruising that year so it will at best be coastal sailing around the New England area.

If I buy a boat while in the US, willI be able to get the needed insurance to berth it at any Marinas in Boston? Given that I am not 1) a US citizen and 2) if I plan to liveaboard I won’t even have a proper US address to speak of.

Thanks for any advice. I’m having real trouble figuring out how the insurance will work.

You will need an official "domicile" address, can also be where you receive your mail.
