Mike

Any way to pull out which persons had liability insurance only as I am trying to get this type of insurance on a UK registered 43 year old boat in the NW Caribbean so a lead to which companies to approach would be great

I am embarrassed to say I don't think so Triumphant, but I'll look at the raw data tomorrow and see if I can tease this out. I'm embarrassed b/c I too am keenly interested in the same thing .

I'm pretty sure Edward William will do 3rd party for you but it might be expensive until the no claim kicks in. You will probably want wreck removal included which could cost more than the value of your hull. Cost could go up dramatically with weight of boat since air-bag removal would be easy on a small plastic boat.
No point in getting offshore insurance - just make sure you have no leaks and can keep the water out

Getting hull insurance on old boats is difficult because many have boats they want to get rid of.
By not getting the boat itself insured you are showing the underwriter you are not in it for the scam potential.

I went through the raw responses to try and get you (and me) and answer. I've extracted all the liability-only responses and placed them here in this table. Hopefully this will help..

Thanks Mike

Most of the companies are not ones I have contacted yet so I have some more leads

One more question for the forum

Will US insurers insure no US vessels?

My experience is .... not without a US address although even a post office box will do or Brendans Isle mail forwarding service.

Re: Boat insurance survey

Tossed all the numbers into an excel document. They are sorted by insured value. Just in case someone wants to play with the numbers at will . Let me know if I messed any of them up. Marc

Re: Boat insurance survey

Mike, here's a little more info to add to the list. Last insurance I had for the boat was liability only, $500usd for $300,000 cover from Offshore Risk Management. They do USA and other places. The biggest issue with USA companies seems to be that my boat is steel, non production and that I am living aboard. Other non USA companies seem to collectively refuse to insure USA flagged boats.

Hi there fellow travellers. Can anyone guide me regarding the best personal accident travel insurance for livaboarders. Also can you get boat insurance to include personal crew and skipper cover?
Thanks for any responders

Shopping insurance for a 39ft sloop currently, and seeing options for insuring crew & captain with Geico and others. Not sure about the impact of liveaboard, so would enjoy hearing from anyone who has with some recommendations.
