Better to sell in Grenada or Florida?

So we’re thinking about putting our boat up for sale. It’s currently on the hard in Grenada.

Buying a boat in Grenada seems like it would be appealing, since you avoid all of the easting involved in the thorny path.

On the other hand, it’s easier for people to come look at a boat if it’s in Florida.

Opinions?

I would think your price point will be a huge factor. If it's a good deal, but still in the 6 figures then traveling to Grenada to look at it might be a fun vacay while looking it. On the other hand if it is 5k then the plane ticket would be a lot more substantial part of the price.

Is it a US boat?

Many think you get more $$ in Fl or the US East Coast than Grenada. If the US market is what you are trying to hit, then the distance to arrange a survey and look at a boat in Grenada may be less appealing to many. It all depends on the boat.

I would think that just the number of potential buyers would be exponentially greater in the U.S. and therefore a no-brainer.

Good point. It will be in the low 6 figures.

Re: Better to sell in Grenada or Florida?

Another issue, is it a boat with high demand relative to supply?

If it’s another beneteau 38 and somebody in the US can see 5 of them within an hour’s drive from the FLL airport, Grenada will be a tough sell. If you are selling an Amel 53 or a larger Hallberg Rassy people are lined up waiting for them to come on the market and will travel far if it’s in good shape.

Another good point. It’s a 2 cabin Beneteau 473.

Re: Better to sell in Grenada or Florida?

You might consider to ask a broker to run some comps of both locations to get an idea of price and stats on average number of days on the market. From there you can decide if its worth the cost of sailing her back to FL.

It depends if you are going to stay near the boat to be available for prospects questions--when I go boat buying I just want to interview owner-not a broker who knows zero

Put it on the market in Grenada and if there is little interest then move it to the US.

I’d be happy work with the buyer.

Re: Better to sell in Grenada or Florida?

I bought a boat in FL. US COG reg. The boat had been in the Bahamas. The owners moved it to FL for the sale. A US sale is MUCH easier in the US. Puerto Rico works, but you can't drive there.
If the time to sale to FL isn't a prob. Do it.
You can post the listing for FL when you set sail from Grenada, these things take time.
