Re: Australia third party only (liability) Insurance without Survey?

If you really want to find out how hard it is to get insurance, just have your boat hanging off a swing mooring above 26.00S!

Pantaenius UK won't deal direct with us Aussies because they have had their AU office opened now for a couple of years. I originally was insured via their UK office, but the policy transferred to the AU office when it opened with a very much different PDS. Edward William, via DG Marine, should have no problems offering a policy as they have the reputation that includes, amongst other things, a willingness to insure what others wont. Perhaps you might want to look at a comprehensive policy with both as the price difference between that and TPP is pretty much trivial and it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to just get TPP insurance if my previous experiences are anything to go by.

I was told DG now use Nautilas Marine Third Party only as is required by Marina operators is available. But as I was on a mooring to get lost.

Yes, Apia is useless if you are younger than a half century!

Re: Australia third party only (liability) Insurance without Survey?

Wow Im getting tired of being ripped off by over inflated Aussie prices.
So far we have tried near every angle to get half descent price on insurance that I dont even want anyway other then to go to a marina.

The latest bang head news is; Edward williams quote came in at over $700 for liability only??? WTF more expensive than reputable places. That was a local quote as Edward williams office in spain did not return any emails or phone messages for over 2 weeks.

Im still working on a few other angles but so far not looking good. Tried near everywhere and always same thing either way over priced, no third party only so even more over the top or must have a new out of water survey Which is also required for all comprehensive policies.

Once we finally conclude the process Ill update to help others out. Hopefully I have overlooked something or someone will have that nugget of advice I so desperately need........

Did Trident need a survey or was there some other problem with them?

Re: Australia third party only (liability) Insurance without Survey?

Trident was way expensive.
At the end of re day, all things considered it looks like we are going with Pantaenius. They reviewed their first quote and found a few things that lowered their first quote. As we are in a low risk area and they dropped the personal coverage which was not in other policies anyway.
This brought the quote down comparable with Nautilus etc. like for like policy. However it did demonstrate to us their willingness to listen and review their primary decision. That at least appears that they are reasonable and also they seem to have a very good reputation.

I wish we could have bought a policy from the UK agent at under $200 for the same policy. If you are over 50 Apia gave by far the best quote at around $200 third party only.
I hope this helps out others in their search for third party insurance.

It pays to shop, be persistent and don't just settle for outrageous prices. Give feed back and refuse to pay u tip you get something more reasonable. If everyone did that prices would have to become more competitive.

Anyway just my 2 bob

We had third party approved for our boat on a swing mooring in Sydney without being lifted for survey, Youi was the company. Quite reasonable rates too

I tried Youi but they wouldn't insure a boat that was 40' or longer.

Re: Australia third party only (liability) Insurance without Survey?

Since marinas demanded insurance I have insured my concrete yacht with Edward william. As that was the only company that offered insurance for ferro boats that i could find at the time.
Indeed, 3rd party was quite expensive and I ended up insuring the boat comprehensively for a few hundred $$ more. My current bill is around $1100 for $35k. They do not require a survey for the boat. My boat is on a swing mooring currently, although there was no price difference between marina pen and a mooring

The yearly renewals are done online effortlessly and directly with a guy and/or his offsider. I can provide their names and direct email addresses via PM if you like.
Not sure how well, or not, they honour claims.
