Anyone interested in a interesting autobiography of an American sailor in the Napoleanic period might want to read "The travels and adventures of David C. Bunnell" (1831). This book has a lot of history including accounts of the terrible impressment of Americans by the British as slave sailors on board their warships and also a personal account of the Battle of Lake Erie, an important moment in American history. The author is a real salty dog who uses all the language of the old time seaman.
