Summer Sailstice

Welcome to Summer Sailstice: http://www.summersailstice.com/
An annual celebration of sailing on the solstice ~ June 18th and 19th, 2005

”Summer Sailstice”™ is a global holiday celebrating sailing on the best possible day: the longest of the year! Named by Sailing magazine as one of sailing's top 10 events, it's the kind of event a laid back cruiser can learn to love. It's not a race, regatta, or anything of the sort. It's simply about gathering with other sailors, in thousands of bays around the world, to celebrate the joy of sailing. Perhaps join others for a raft up at a favorite sailing destination. Create a sailboat party out on the water to celebrate the beginning of the summer sailing season ahead.

No rules, no fees, no start time and no excuses not to go have fun! And if that isn't enough reason you could win a BVI Moorings charter, a Hunter Xcite sailboat, a $500 shopping spree, a cruising course from Offshore sailing, plus over 100 other prizes... just for participating.

In 2004, the fourth year of Summer Sailstice 2800 signed up from all over the world, up from 1400 in 2003, 400 in 2002 and 200 in 2001. Sailors signed up from 18 countries, 48 states in the US, 5 canadian provinces and sailed as far as far North as Alaska and as far South as South Africa. The furthest East and West was Greece in the Med and Tokyo in Japan and Shanghai in China!

Except it ain't a "Global" holiday. That is if we down here are considered as part of the rest of the world
And even more sadly, it ain't the longest day for us.
Been getting our true winter now and it is cold this morning. Infact, winter is a little early this year, by about a month. We don't normaly get this much cold weather till after the shortest day.

Sorry, Wheels. It looks as though you are not part of the world today. Better luck next solstice.

Apology

OOPS - please forgive my implied egocentricity - of course it's not the 'longest day" down under.
In another context, today is the 62ND anniversary of the "longest day" (D-Day)
Shamefully,
Gord
