Storm Tactics - Kindle or Hardcover ?

I've been thinking about buying the Pardy's book STORM TACTICS for a while. I just can't decide if it should buy the Kindle version or buy the hardcover version. On one hand I really don't need to add another book on board but, I wonder if the Kindle version has the best charts/graphs/photos compared to the hardcover version. Any one have an experience with the different versions?

Kindle looks EXACTLY like the book... but you can read it in total darkness!

They have been discussing them over on YBW. Would appear you can send a weather report to your amazon account. Pay a small fee then download the weather report as a PDF to Kindle and read it, assuming you are within 3G or wifi range. Thought that was a clever idea.

The kindle is monochrome so any colour pics will not be as good. Also, I find reference books harder to deal with on the kindle as it is difficult to maintain multiple points of interest in the same way - flicking back and forth is trivial with a dead tree book.

Searching is way easier on the kindle though

I also find the kindle less effective than the iPad for reading PDFs as it is almost always necessary to zoom a PDF to read and the user interface for moving around a zoomed doc is poor compared with the finger flicks on the iPad.

For proper ebooks read in a linear fashion I love the kindle.

Yea, but can you read the kindle when its been thrown across the cabin again by another breaking wave or soaked by those drips that only show up in heavy conditions?
Come to think of it,I wouldn't be reading a book at that point either.

Re: 'Storm Tactics' - Kindle or Hardcover ?

Thanks for the info Capngeo. I've grown to really like reading with the Kindle. Especially in bed. It's a lot lighter than most hardcovers to hold. Plus I usually have it with me when traveling and does not get washed out like an IPAD does in the sun. My book shelves are already over loaded so whatever I can put on the Kindle really helps keep things from getting out of hand. So I think I'll buy it for the Kindle.

Whatever media you choose, you should also get the DVD that goes along with the book.

Re: 'Storm Tactics' - Kindle or Hardcover ?

I have both and I must say, I prefer the dead tree version. Charts and tables just don't seem to come up right on the Kindle.

There doesn't seem to be a way to enlarge them so if it took up part of a page in the book, it will only take up part of the page in the Kindle no matter what you do with the font.

If anyone knows a way around that, please let me know.

And remember you have the "Try Sample" option on your Kindle by which you can read a couple chapters for free to find out if you really want to buy the book. I love it, saves me tons.

Our Kindle DX took a wave coming up from the Bahamas and works fine after it dried out.

Best time to be reading a good yarn by W.Smith or the like... good 'Storm Tactic's'.... depending on your proximity to shore....
