Pirate Books, BVI Lore ?

I'm about to make a return trip to the BVI. I'd like to read-up on the history. Does anyone have any good books to reccomend? Something fun?

much appreciated,

-c

The obvious first choice is Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, cameraflier. Though it is fiction, it is based on fact, in particular the exploits of Captain J. Flint and his crew of bloodthirsty buccaneers. Dead Chest Island, lying off Peter Island in the BVI, may be the inspriation for Stevenson's Skeleton Island, and the phrase "fifteen men on a dead man's chest - yo ho ho and a bottle of rum."

For further background, see: Treasure Island - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I enjoyed The Empire of Blue Water by Stephan Talty. the story of Morgan's exploits throughout the Caribbean. It is very much similar to John Steinbeck's Cup of Gold
Michner's Caribbean is another good novel with lots of history of the area.
