magazines (U.S.)

which sailing magazines do people like and why? since my interest is mainly in learning to sail offshore and do some Atlantic coast/ICW cruising on a 30-40ft sloop rather than yacht club regattas, racing, and the like, which ones would be more pertinent and informative?

LATUDE 38 ONLINE ONLY. none of the glossies nor other reporting type of magAZINE. NO log, NO SAIL, NO CRUISING WORLD--hey-- they got my gender and statement wrong--LOL.....i sail-- do i need their advertisements for stuff i cant use nor do i want?
do i need to support corporate amerikuh? no thanks. shouldnt a been so into educating me self about da stuff of the world--poli sci, phllosophy, econ, stats, histories and civilizations of different areas in world,-- stuff.... learned waaay too much to wanna support it by purchasing irrelevant to me mags of gloss... lol; sorrry..
as for parts--i get em used when possible or i find least pricey local in which to purchase them. doesnt come in a glossy mag.

thankyou, sugah...they are blind and not researched.....otherwise ida got a fone call or something about what i sed and who i am..LOL....
no bodily harm , i am not a revolutionary....i enjoy men ... they are fun to watch and the lil kid in them is awesome.....when allowed to remain alive.

I am lmao! On another forum to which I belong (Newfoundland dog owners) newbies come on all the time and ask questions that sometimes result in a mild flaming. Since I'd done quite a bit of homework before procuring a Newfoundland dog, it was easy to avoid there.

But, because I'm a total greenhorn at sailing and am just getting hip to the vibe here, I stepped right into this one! Let there be no aggro stirred up on my account.

Zeehag, I get it and am with you. Although the whole 'I want to live on a boat' idea has been germinating for several years, only recently have I started actually looking online at boats for sale. So, I'm afraid a bit of glossy sailboat porn may be irresistible during this stage!

A large collection of books, many owned since childhood, will be one of the things that I'll have to part with should I decide to shift to part-time or full-time cruising. At one time, I never would have even considered this, but I'm feeling ready. An e-reader will become a necessity at some point, I suppose. Lots of paper is used wastefully, I'll admit, but I'll always prefer a paper book.

Anyhoo, I'll be sure to check out Latitude 38 online. Thanks!

Welcome, wannabe.. you might also check out Lattitudes and Attitudes as well as Practical Sailor. The only glossy I used to read was Passagemaker, mostly geared to high end powerboats but had some really informative articles on all aspects of cruising... cheers, Capt Phil

I like Latts & Atts. also and Wooden boat, I just like to look at the nice wooden boats. Cruising world used be okay, but the advert money trumped the cruising part. I also read National Fisherman.

practical sailor is a decent non glossy mag,also, btw--informative.
cruising world used to be ok before the multitude of ads and getting my gender wrong....
