The os is the most stable android i have used. the nexus is actually the 5th android device I have owned, so I am comparing it to the other androids I own. I use 2 phones (both android) 1 for work, 1 for personal.

Ipad is not as compatible with non apple items for lack of better terms. ipad cost more for same app.

look at hte cost of navionics for apple and then compare it to ipad. something like 10 bucks vs 50 or 60, can't remember as it has been a while. cost. You could purchase 3 8gb androids for the cost of 1 ipad (with gps feature).

Android is much more customizable than apple in regards to the user interface and settings along with cheaper apps and the ability to sideload apps that are not even for your particular device. I sideloaded my navionics app as the app was not remodeled for 5+inch tablets, but is 100% usable with sideloading, however could not be bought through the google store.

I have both android and ipad and prefer the android everyday. Plus 7" screen is easier to hold, scroll and type on than the 10" ipad.

You know, I've never used it in the sun, but my kids use it all the time in the car without complaints.

But I would say if that is a high priority, go with one of the paper-look ones, like the original Kindle.

It is the 6" sony - does everything I want with a biggger display than the smae exterior packaged kindle.
