Primedia launching two new marine titles

Primedia Inc. said today it is going ahead with the full launch of two new marine publications — BoatWorks and Voyaging — after successfully testing the concepts last year.

BoatWorks will offer do-it-yourself editorial content on the maintenance and restoration of fiberglass boats. Voyaging covers the powerboat cruising experience and lifestyle. The new titles join existing Primedia publications Power & Motoryacht and SAIL.

“Our market test last year allows us to launch these brands with confidence in the demand from readers and the acceptance by advertisers,” said Kelly Conlin, president and CEO of Primedia, in a statement.

Primedia says BoatWorks covers do-it-yourself boat care — from structural repair, to paint and varnish, to book and DVD reviews — with step-by-step photographs and illustrations to demonstrate each phase of a project. It will be published four times a year “to match the seasonality of the market,” with a distribution of 75,000 copies. The newly launched www.boatworksmagazine.com will supplement the magazine by providing interactive tutorials and showcasing successful restoration projects.

In Voyaging, Primedia says, the editorial content “extends beyond marine products to focus on the complete lifestyle of cruising enthusiasts.” It will include profiles on travel destinations, options for chartering, and the latest in accessories and electronics. Published quarterly, the publication will receive promotional support from Power & Motoryacht.

Peter Nielsen is the editor of BoatWorks and Kim Kavin will edit Voyaging.
