The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and other federal agencies has released an update to the National
Survey on Recreation and the
Environment.
The report, “Projected Participation in
Marine Recreation: 2005 & 2010,” contains
forecast data for participation in outdoor
marine recreation for the years 2005 and 2010. It examines participation trends for outdoor recreation activities in the United States, including
boating,
fishing, and a variety of other activities.
According to the report, the rate of participation in
fishing, motorboating, sailing, personal watercraft use, canoeing and kayaking will decline in
forecast years 2005 and 2010, although the total number of participants will increase in all categories consistent with population growth. Overall, participation rates in outdoor recreation in 13 of the 19 activities covered will decline.
