Just be thankful it's not a German yacht! (who won the war, we did, we did)
hanks for ven more reassurance on this!

BTW - it was TWO wars. And one world cup.

Xavier,

Check the VAT situation prior to putting your boat into charter in Thailand. You currently have an EU VAT paid boat which you could put under charter in the Med. I believe if you put your boat under charter in Thailand you'll be liable for Thai VAT (which I believe is quite steep).

Cheers

PS - I suspect your boat has depreciated so much because your purchase price of € 280K includes VAT. I'll bet the buyer's offer is calculated on the depreciated price of similar boats that are VAT Exempted. It's possible to buy VAT exempt boats in the EU if they're destined for charter or 'business'.

FWIW, the annual depreciation on your boat works out to about 8% VAT Incl. / 5.5% VAT Excl. In either case, that's not too bad for a five year old boat considering the biggest depreciation hit is right up front.

^ My understanding is Thai VAT on boats is now 7%. It's been reduced substantially in the last couple of years. The valuation on which it's based (according to my lawyer in Jomtien) will depend, like most things in the Land of Smiles, on how much "Thai WD40" goes in the envelope!

- I hope this post doesn't get removed like the last one (ref Germans/World Cup). I don't for one moment suggest that Thailand has any corruption, nepotism, cronyism etc. and of course the thais are an entirely honest, uncorruptable, level headed, well educated bunch of people who never do anything bad .

Nice weather and diving mostly tho.

We get on pretty well, by and large. Comes of only having one invasion in our mutual history. (and, come to think of it, we won that one.) Connemara
