What happened to Scandia Marine Products?

Does anyone know what happened to what happened to Scandia Marine Products?

They made a great stainless midships boarding ladder called the "Up-n-Out'. I have tried email and leaving messages on his phone but to no avail.

They may still have a web site but they don't answer the phone or emails.

Re: What happened to Scandia Marine Products?

As I recall it was kinda a one man shop. I have two of those ladders. I bought one for our sailboat and, for some reason it took him a looooong time to get it to me, so he trew in a small ladder for my porte boat!

Nice stuff, I'd hate to see them give up.

Maybe they are just outta touch for a bit?

This website for Up n Out has lists of retailers selling the ladder.

Re: What happened to Scandia Marine Products?

This is the first boarding ladder that I have seen that might work for my boat. Thanks for passing it on.

My only concern is whether the lower rung steel would touch the hull and mar it when coming up or down the ladder. It starts off unweighted curved out but coming up you have to push the lower rungs in (usually) as you pull yourself up.

Re: What happened to Scandia Marine Products?

The sales material says it stay out rigid when deployed the pic on site of the girl climbing the ladder seems to confirm it's not folding under.
Of course that is a new ladder I don't know how they age. Like anything marine it's not cheap but it sure looks like a better solution than anything I've found.

Re: What happened to Scandia Marine Products?

I had an opportunity to try one at the Chicago Boat Show in 2014 and there was very little 'flexing' of the ladder. It was easy to climb at the show and now I want one but cannot get a hold of the company. I did contact a reseller and he also has an issue contacting them.

Re: What happened to Scandia Marine Products?

Duluth is 2 hrs away, but when I googled an address came up about 6 miles from my house. I have to drive up that way tomorrow, I'll go see what's there....

Re: What happened to Scandia Marine Products?

I sure hope they're still in business. We bought one of their ladders a few years ago, and it has been one of the best upgrades we've made. Beautifully made, stores folded on the side deck completely out of the way. Can be deployed from deck, or from someone floating in the water, so it doubles an an emergency ladder. Sturdy, solid, great.

When we bought ours the owner (seemed to be a one-person show) spent a lot of time with us, customizing the fit and ensuring it worked right. He even gave us a tour of his workshop. Pretty impressive, and he seemed to have more work than he could handle. Perhaps it's a case of him getting too successful?

Re: What happened to Scandia Marine Products?

I got up to the old address near my house and learned from his former landlord that he has sold the business and it has moved to Duluth. I called the numbers but the mailboxes are all full. I got the personal number of the former owner and left him a message that a bunch of people were looking for his ladder. The new owners must be struggling with too much or not enough business, or taking a Caribbean break!

Re: What happened to Scandia Marine Products?

I wrote the European distributor. Please write to him and ask about the Boat Ladder Perhaps if enough do we can get these ladders again

Dear Stephen.
Thanks for your inq.
Scandia Marine Product, products has been taken over by us, due to they suddenly stop business, as far as we have heard.
So we are hard working on their program of Up N Down ladders for dock only, and not on their boat ladders.

So if we can help you with dock ladders we will be very glad.

Have a nice day

Z poważaniem,
