West Marine price matching

Just found out that West Marine is changing it's price matching policy as of 1 March 2013.
They will only match prices with competitors that are within 50 miles of the store you are making a purchase at.
This means that they will virtually elimate any price matching with on-line suppliers.

Re: West Marine price matching

Deadline is March 1st. I saved a lot of money last year.
Shipping has made online purchasing comparable to the in store price so without price match we're screwed. Any ideas? eBay? Cruisersforum classifieds?

Re: West Marine price matching

Yep I just ran into this new policy today as well. It sucks! But I have to say I will wait and purchase when i have enough items that shipping is not an issue. Some of the online retailers are still cheaper even with shipping, so it will mean that I will start buying more online. Probably the only items I will purchase from West Marine are pumps and electrical components, as we live aboard and its not really a matter of if, but when these pumps and certain electrical parts give out. WM does have a great insurance plan on their parts, which I use a lot given the amount of wear/tear that a live aboard puts on stuff like fresh water supply pumps, AC pumps, lighting etc...

oh, well glad that most of my refit is done....
